Greetings from Swarthmore College! As your seniors round out their college lists and work through applications, here are a few brief updates from our community:
We recently welcomed 418 first-year and 23 transfer students to Swarthmore.
See our 2019 counselor guide for a snapshot of our admitted class and more information on Swarthmore, including our application process, financial aid commitments, and how we support students on campus.
We invite students to use SwatPass to see if they qualify for an application fee waiver.
All prospective applicants with financial need can complete our brief SwatPass form to learn if they qualify for a $60 application fee waiver via the Common Application or Coalition Application. Swarthmore also partners with QuestBridge, which does not charge an application fee. Veterans, active-duty service members, and transfer students enrolled at a community or junior colleges do not need to pay to apply.
We now offer Spanish-language resources for prospective students and their families.
Our various web pages—including those covering what we look for in a Swattie, our required application materials and deadlines, and Swarthmore’s financial aid policies—are available in Spanish at www.swarthmore.edu/admissions- aid/en-espaƱol. Additionally, Spanish-speakers can email us at espanol@swarthmore.edu with questions.
We’re Celebrating Black Excellence this year.
The 2019-2020 academic year marks significant milestones in the history of the College, including the 50th anniversaries of Swarthmore’s Black Cultural Center and the Black Studies Program, and the 25th anniversary of the Chester Children’s Chorus. To honor our past, our community will gather for special events and performances throughout the year.
Our new Engineering, Biology, and Psychology building—Maxine Frank Singer ‘52 Hall—is now open.
Primarily housing Swarthmore’s Engineering, Biology, and Psychology departments, Singer Hall will strengthen interdisciplinary connections between academic departments across the curriculum. If you have students interested in STEM majors, they’ll have a new home at Swarthmore (in addition to our existing Science Center).
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your regional dean directly.
Thank you for your hard work in supporting students as they explore their post-secondary options! We appreciate all that you do.
Kindly,
The various people of the Swarthmore Admissions Office
