Greetings from UVM,
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact all of us both personally and professionally, I wanted to reach out and send our best wishes to you, your family, and your school community. I am writing to share answers to questions that we imagine you are getting from your students and their families. We are hearing them too, and it's our hope to share what can in this unprecedented time as we all attempt to navigate the ever-changing landscape together—as partners—in this process.
Acceptance Fee Deadline
Our acceptance fee deadline will remain May 1, 2020. This decision was made in considering our earlier decision notifications (December for Early Action and February for Regular Decision) and in facing the reality that visits to campus will not be possible in the month of May. We have offered extensive virtual admitted student programming to introduce students to our community. It's our hope that these efforts will enable students to make a choice with confidence and provide closure to the decision process.
Recognizing that some students will not be able to decide by the May 1, deadline, enrollment fee extension requests will be considered on case by case basis, prioritizing cases of specific personal circumstance. We will be as flexible as possible, understanding that asks based on inability to visit, weighing competing offers, or general uncertainty are less likely to be granted.
New Student Orientation
In place of our traditional fully residential Orientation, we are planning a re-imagined new student orientation, engagement, and transition program that will span the summer months and include live virtual events and self-paced elements. We will provide updates as information becomes available.
Virtual Visit Events
While we wish that we were able to welcome visitors to Burlington right now, we are committed to safety and will continue to follow public health guidelines. We have just wrapped up six Virtual Admitted Student Days, and we continue to offer our Virtual Information Sessions several times a week. You can learn more about our virtual visit options here.
Transcripts & Standardized Testing
We will accept pass/fail grades on transcripts during this time, including for graduating seniors. Enrolling students will still be required to send a final high school transcript with a graduation date, but we will consider extenuating circumstances as they arise.
We will require either the SAT or ACT for all domestic, first year applicants in the Fall of 2021, but will continue to monitor the situation closely.
Advanced Placement (AP) & International Baccalaureate (IB)
At this time we will accept any College Board administered AP exam with official score report for course credit. UVM still requires an official IB or A-level Diploma with IB or A-level grades in order to be eligible for course credit.
Extended Transfer Deadline
To ensure our Transfer students are still able to complete an application for Fall 2020, we have extended our Priority Transfer Application deadline to June 30 and are also accepting emailed PDF formatted High School Transcripts as official documents if sent directly from the high school counseling office or the Registrar. These can be emailed directly to admissions@uvm.edu. Prospective transfer students can still expect a timely review of their completed application and transfer credits.
We know that your students will likely have lots of questions, and we will continue to stay in touch with you in order to provide updates as soon as we are able. I encourage you to contact us with any questions, as we look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully seeing you on campus soon.
Be well, stay safe, and take care of each other.
