UNIVERSITY OF TULSA

Greetings from The University of Tulsa!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and before the break we wanted to make sure you are aware of the Special Programs application which gives your students the opportunity to apply for several different interdisciplinary programs at one time. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2020.   * Requirements for each program vary. Students should read through each one carefully before starting the application.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Our counselors are eager to help you and your students that are considering TU.

We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break. You deserve it!

TULANE UNIVERSITY

Here's a quick update on Early Decision at Tulane.

For students who have recently decided that Tulane is the place for them, our Early Decision II plan is once again being made an option this year. Students may apply ED II, or change an Early Action or Regular Decision application to an ED II application by January 6.

If students have already applied Early Action or Regular Decision, they need to login to their Green Wave Portal to switch their application to ED II. This will add the ED II Agreement Form to their materials checklist, which you will be required to sign.  If your student hasn't submitted an application yet, they can apply ED II through the Common App or our online application.

If students have any questions about ED II, please direct them to our ED II Coordinator, Makenzie Kozojet.

Sincerely,

Jeff Schiffman
Director of Admission

LINFIELD COLLEGE

HELLO FROM LINFIELD!
As you continue to work with your students, we wanted to keep you apprised of a few updates and one exciting new opportunity.

Early Action Admission Decisions
  • Our first Early Action decisions were released Friday, November 15. We review, decide and release decisions electronically each week with students receiving an email at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time with instructions to login to their Linfield Admission Portal. Admission decisions also include a student's merit-based scholarship award, if they were eligible.
  • Applicants also receive their admission decision and scholarship award by postal mail.
  • If a student applied for need-based financial aid, an offer of financial aid will be mailed once we have concluded the review of all Early Action applicants.
  • Early Action candidates who have yet to complete their application are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. We are notifying students of their missing items regularly. Applicants with missing items at the conclusion of our Early Action application review will be moved to Regular Decision and notified accordingly.
  • Linfield utilizes Slate as our admission and application system of record and are happy to share information with counselors through Slate.org. If you have not already, you can sign up for Slate.org for free and have access to upload materials, check your students' application status and decisions.
Linfield Tuition Commitment

We're excited to launch a new program this year - the Linfield Tuition Commitment. Our commitment is for the top five percent of Linfield's admitted first-year (domestic, non-visa seeking) students will receive scholarships so they pay no more than $12,000 in tuition for their first year. Our goal is to bring Linfield tuition cost in line with that of an in-state public university. Eligible students will be notified on or before March 20 based on the recalculated weighted GPA on their most recently submitted transcript.

Students are encouraged to participate in and be considered for all other Linfield scholarships, including Linfield Scholarship and Visit Weekend, Linfield First (for first-generation students) and music scholarships, and financial aid. To be considered, students must complete their applications by our February 1 Regular Decision priority deadline.

If you have questions about the Linfield Tuition Commitment, other ways we work to make Linfield an affordable option, or anything else, we welcome you to contact us at 800-640-2287.

Sincerely,
Lisa, Patrick, Matt, Aaron, Tiffany, Mary Beth, Emily, and Madison

USC BOVARD SCHOLARS

Dear Jan Kalb,

The 2020 USC Bovard Scholars application is now open!

We are excited to welcome our fourth cohort of Bovard Scholars to the USC campus this summer. As I write to you, our third cohort is in the midst of the college application process, working with our program’s college admissions counselors to refine essays and applications. And our second cohort is enjoying their first year as college freshmen at top-tier universities across the country — think Harvard, Columbia, the University of Chicago, the University of California, Berkeley, and right here at USC.

We invite all high-achieving high school juniors with financial need to apply.

Do you or someone you know fit these requirements?
  • Junior in high school (11th grader) at time of application
  • Currently hold a 4.0 GPA or above
  • Enrolled in Algebra II, Trigonometry or above
  • Demonstrate financial need

If so, you are eligible to apply.

If selected, each Bovard Scholar will have one full year of support through the admissions cycle and spend three weeks on the USC campus, where they will receive:
  • Personalized career exploration
  • Expert admission and financial aid support
  • Comprehensive test preparation
  • Leadership development

This year, the program runs from July 12, 2020, through August 1, 2020.

We offer the program at no cost to students or families. USC will pay for transportation to and from campus for students coming from outside of Southern California.

Applications are due January 17, 2020, at 5:00pm PST.

Here’s what recent scholars have to say:
“Do not miss out on a wonderful experience. Not only do you leave feeling like you learned so much, but you leave with a huge network of people who care about you, and want you to succeed.”
RHONDAYA FISHBURNE
Rhondaya is now a sophomore at University of Southern California
“It is the best program I have ever attended. Hands down, you are not only with people who are like you, but as driven as you. It’s such an amazing experience.”
STEPHANIE CORRALES
Stephanie is now a
sophomore at Wesleyan University
“It is amazing to see how many people can be gathered and are willing to share the ins and outs of the college admission process, as well as have the patience to work with us and answer every single question we have about the next big step in our lives.”
DIEGO RAMOS
Diego is now a
sophomore at University of Southern California

The USC Bovard Scholars program is a unique opportunity for high-achieving high school juniors with financial need to experience college life firsthand while becoming immersed in an interactive, rigorous curriculum designed to help them get into the college of their dreams. I look forward to another year of helping these amazing students dream big.
