The University of Oklahoma

Welcome to a new school year.

While we know this year looks completely different than any before, we at the University of Oklahoma are looking forward to connecting with the next generation of Sooners. This newsletter includes key info for your high school seniors, including more details about OU becoming a test-optional institution

We have limited this fall's campus tours to high school seniors and transfer students, but our staff will still be available virtually to best serve you and your students. As always, please don't hesitate to contact your OU admissions counselor, Taylor Petersen, at tpetersen@ou.edu, or our office at admissions@ou.edu or (405) 325-2151 if you need anything.

TULANE UNIVERSITY

Two quick resources of support for your students; one for your rising seniors and one for your recent grads who are about to start college this fall.

For your graduates, please feel free to share our webinar from last week: College, Disrupted. We had an awesome conversation with four Tulane graduates whose freshman year was upended when Hurricane Katrina stuck New Orleans on their college move-in day. They shared advice, stories of hope and resilience and some great soundbites for rising college freshmen who will be starting their college experience during an entirely different, but in some ways similar, disaster. You can view the recording of the webinar here.

For your rising seniors, I’ve posted a blog this week that will assist them in answering (or not answering) the new COVID-19 question on the Common App. You can view it here.

Hope you are hanging in there.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Test-optional for fall 2021 admission

At the University of Oklahoma, we recognize that a student is more than a test score. That’s why when evaluating a student for admission, test scores are just one component considered in our holistic process. We also understand the realities and challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and are mindful of the issues that have complicated testing.

OU will implement a test-optional admissions process when reviewing applications for the spring and fall 2021 semesters.

While test scores are encouraged for admission, OU wants to be flexible and inclusive of all students, mitigating negative impacts to individuals and their academic progression as a result of the pandemic. Submitting test scores is still a great option for most of our applicants, but we encourage you and your students to review the below details and our FAQs.

At the time of application, students will share their plans regarding the submission or consideration of ACT or SAT scores as part of their application. All students' applications will be evaluated in a holistic manner. The University of Oklahoma considers four parts to a student’s application: academic rigor and performance, engagement, essay, and letters of recommendation.

If a student applies test-optional, the high school transcript will be the primary criteria for determining academic preparedness for OU. Please note: Students who had only pass/fail or similar grading options during the spring 2020 term will not be penalized.

We expect most students will still provide scores, allowing for accurate course placement and maximizing the opportunity for scholarships at OU. In some cases it also could improve a student's opportunity to gain admission.

The OU application for fall 2021 opens on August 1! If you have additional questions, contact your OU admissions counselor, Taylor Petersen, at tpetersen@ou.edu.
