I wanted to reach out with a quick update about an awesome upcoming event that Wichita State is taking part in! In association with TACAC, Strive Scan is hosting a virtual college exploration program. The event began this week and runs through Friday, May 8^th.

I’m writing to let you know that Wichita State will be one of the participants in the individual session! Join Wichita State University for an overview and Q&A during the StriveScan virtual fair! Wichita State University's session will be hosted from 12 to 12:45 p.m. on April 28^th  with an admissions presentation and time to answer questions you may have.

Strive Virtual College Exploration

Program extended: Two more weeks added!

Monday, April 20 - Friday, May 8, 2020

We’d like to update our membership that the Strive Virtual College Exploration Week has received more than 30,000 student registrations for the 96 different panel presentations during the initial week, April 20-23. More than 300 different colleges and universities from 44 states and 10 countries are participating and sharing their expertise with students.

By popular demand, StriveScan has extended the program two additional weeks to create more opportunities for our colleges and universities to connect with students from around the country. 

Now offering individual college info sessions!

From Monday, April 27 through Friday, May 8, the Strive Virtual College Exploration program will offer virtual college information sessions. These 45-minute presentations will allow colleges to speak specifically about their institutions, connect with students, and answer questions live. 

College Registration

College registration for the information session time slots will open on Friday, April 17 at 12:00 PM Central Time via StriveScan’s website and there is a $200 registration fee. We expect time slots will fill up quickly.

University of Arkansas Virtual Visit, April 29th

I am going to be hosting a virtual visit for Lake Travis and Dripping Springs students next week and I wanted to pass the registration link along in case you wanted to send it out to your students. They will have to register via the link but then they can hop on and get a small presentation and have their questions answered if needed.

Our communications team has created online platforms for admissions staff to host individual, virtual chats with students, host group presentations, and even visit students through virtual lunch visits via webinar. All of this is currently up and running and will be updated every two weeks. So, if you/your students do not see an event near you at this time, please come back and look as new things are added to the calendar.   Our goal is that we remain as accessible as possible to students during this time of social distancing. We are excited to provide these resources to your students during these circumstances, knowing nothing replaces in-person meetings or true campus visits. We know technology is a tool at our disposal, but transitioning is much easier said than done. We understand not all students have adequate access to the internet. So should a student be seeking resources for their college readiness, we are still able to meet with that student by phone, text, or by mailing resources to him or her. Please let us know how we can best assist you and your students should these needs arise. As well, with these changes, we have made adjustments to how we accept documentation for students. High School Transcripts – Official can be emailed directly from counselor and unofficial transcripts from the student to the respective recruiter ACT/SAT – Students can download the PDF version of their score and upload directly to their UARK New Student Center AP Tests – We will be accepting the scores from the new at home AP tests Slate.org – We allow counselors to upload transcripts, test scores, fee waiver documents, etc. into https://slate.org/

Greetings from New Orleans! You may have read that New Orleans has been one of the hardest hit cities in the US by COVID-19, but fortunately we are turning a corner—earlier this week, a local hospital discharged its 1,500th fully-recovered COVID-19 patient. Things are getting better, and we can't wait for them to get better enough to host your students on campus again. As students continue to research schools virtually, I thought my two recent blogs might be of help. One is on good questions to ask college reps to find out if a school is a good fit, and one is about how to properly (or improperly) email an admission rep. I hope you enjoy. Colorado College Virtual Assistance - Committed Seniors and Juniors

Additionally, the Colorado College YouTube channel is being updated regularly, including content such as helpful tips from faculty across the divisions about studying in their disciplines, quick Q&As with current students, and more about life and learning at Colorado College. Check us out or encourage your students to come and learn more about our community.

Virtual Engagement Opportunities While we have cancelled all on-campus visits, we are still eager to connect with both admitted and prospective students. Check out our Virtual Engagement Opportunities for students, families, and counselors today! We've got virtual information sessions, one-on-one chats with staff and current students, discussions with campus community members, and as always, our virtual tour. Also: Our team just released a four-part video series with details on the Block Plan, life in Rocky Mountains, Financial Aid, and the Admission Process. Please share with your students who are anxious to learn more!   Admitted and Committed Seniors Our admitted class has been receiving updates from us via the weekly Admitted Student Online Newsletter since the end of March. We are making sure to communicate all policy and practice changes when necessary – but wanted to provide you with some information so you can support students as they choose their college home. Deposit Deadline: Although we have opted to maintain the May 1, 2020 deposit deadline, we are working with students individually to consider deadline extensions for extenuating circumstances. Financial Aid Appeals: Due to the recent COVID-19 preventative measures, the Financial Aid office has limited staff answering phones. Please contact the office via financialaid@coloradocollege.edu for the most efficient response time. We understand that COVID-19 may have impacted your students' economic situation in some way or another. If your student would like to submit a financial appeal, please visit our appeals page. Appeals will be reviewed by our committee on a cases-by-case basis. For families who did not apply for financial aid at the time of admission, please review our financial aid policy. We are unable to consider stock market changes, but if the family has had a significant change in their employment status, they may submit an appeal to see if they could receive financial aid in the coming years. Final Grades, Transcripts and Test Scores: We recognize many schools have adopted a pass/fail grading model for this semester – or have adopted similar grade-replacement policies. In submitting final grades and official transcripts, we will gladly review enrolling students holistically and in the context from which they come – grades or no grades. Additionally, if your student(s) opted into our test-optional policy and did so with self-reported scores, we ask that you send an official copy of their scores if you have access. AP and IB Testing/Exams: To date, the college has not altered policy to restrict or eliminate granting of credit for AP test scores or IB results in light of format changes — and do not expect to do so prior to students entering in Fall 2020. While we realize this is not a guarantee of credit later on, we have encouraged students to complete coursework and to sit for exams for which they feel confident in their preparation and have the means to do so. Please reference our Registrar's website for the most up-to-date information about transferring credit earned on AP and IB exams. New Student Orientation: Optimistically, we will be welcoming our community back to campus in August, along with our Class of 2024! Our New Student Orientation (NSO) Team is actively planning for an in-person on campus orientation from August 15 – 24, 2020. All information for incoming students can be found on our CC Bound webpage. Contingency plans are also being developed in case we are not able to welcome students to campus in August. International Admitted Students: We are hopeful our international students will be able to join us in August. As such, we are already working with first-year international students to prepare for visa processing. Our International Student Support Services team is preparing I-20 paperwork with anticipation that visa offices reopen this spring. Any student who anticipated arriving this fall but cannot will be able to defer their entry to Spring 2021 or Fall 2021 semesters. We have also cancelled our Global Scholars Program (GSP) for Summer 2020. In lieu of an in-person residential experience for the summer, we are working to structure an adjunct course to run through the fall semester in order to support international students in their transition.   Prospective Applicants for Fall 2021 Standardized Testing: CC proudly adopted a test-optional policy in August 2019, and we are successfully enrolling our first class under this model. As such, we expect to see applicants opt-out for testing next year. For more details and information on populations excluded from this policy, please visit our Test-Optional webpage. Experience Colorado College:  Our funded campus visit program is scheduled for October 24-26, 2020 — and the application will go live at the end of the month! Pass/Fail Grades and Transcript Notations: As is true for our enrolling class, we will read holistically and flexibly next cycle and review students in the context of their current environment and educational setting. If your institution or district moves to pass/fail or no grades for the spring 2020 term, we will not hold this against your students who apply. University of Tampa Virtual Visits

Although the on-campus visit process has come to a halt for the time-being, The University of Tampa is continuing to engage students and counselors through virtual efforts.

TULANE UNIVERSITY

With things finally starting to wind down with your seniors, it’s hard to believe it’s already time to start offering sage college advice to your junior class. I’ve got two blogs that might help them as they start to navigate the colleges search process. One is advice for how to start the process, one is about tips for making the most of the college visit. We also know that not everyone has the finances to visit campuses (or perhaps some are leery about travel these days), so worry not: our counselors are hosting College 101 nights across the USA. These are not Tulane-specific events, but rather a night to learn all about our best tips and suggestions as they start to navigate the college search process. You can learn more here. Greetings from The University of Tulsa!

March is here and college basketball teams around the country are gearing up for NCAA Tournament action that starts later this month. At TU, we are also moving at lightening speed and wanted to share some information with you that might be helpful to your students.

• The TU Art scholarship deadline has been extended to this Sunday, March 8. Students are required to complete an application and submit a portfolio. For more information, visit our website and click Scholarships at the bottom of the page. The Art Scholarship application can be found here.

• The McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering is hosting an open house for students interested in this major. See the attached flier and please share it with students. TU alumni and professors will be available to answer questions about the industry, talk about the TU curriculum and share their experiences. The event is Thursday, March 26.
   
• TU Up Close is March 27. This program is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors and gives students a bird's-eye-view of what being a TU student is like. Campus tours, student panels, academic interest sessions and a presentation about financial aid are on the agenda. Students can register here.
   
• The Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC) is an innovative program that enables undergraduates to take challenging courses and conduct advanced research with the guidance of top TU professors. Students who will be attending TU this fall can apply and actually start research with a professor the summer before their freshman year at TU. Applications are due April 1. Please encourage your future TU students to apply!
