How will the pandemic influence Willamette's admission process?
As a part of the Making Caring Common Project, Willamette University has joined many other institutions in co-signing the College Admissions Deans Response to COVID-19. We continue to practice holistic admission and value self-care, academic curiosity, service and contributions to others (including family commitments), and extracurricular involvement and leadership in our admission review practices. We also acknowledge that COVID-19 has impacted our future students and families in unique ways. We are committed to this promise that, "no student will be disadvantaged [in the admission process] because of a change in commitments or change in plans because of this outbreak."
How will the pandemic influence Willamette's admission process?

What is happening on campus?
Willamette is planning to resume on-campus instruction in the fall. Like many other institutions, this comes with significant changes to our academic calendar. Our fall semester will start a full week earlier than originally planned, and students will depart campus for Winter Break on November 25. Final exams will be administered online this fall. Just as we did this spring, campus will remain open to students that rely on campus resources like housing, dining services, and reliable internet connectivity.

Anti-Racism Commitments at Willamette
Student, faculty, and administrative leaders affirm our commitment to anti-racist action in the coming academic year and beyond. We stand in solidarity with those who have been calling for justice and working for so long to end institutionalized racism and white supremacy across the country and in our own community. To this end, President Thorsett has asked leadership teams to work with Willamette faculty and staff this summer to develop a prioritized list of actionable items where meaningful change can be achieved to improve equity and inclusion. We pledge to take meaningful action on a University-wide anti-racist agenda to be crafted collaboratively between students, faculty, staff, and senior-level administration in the fall.
The College Search
Fall Travel
As part of our commitment to help keep our campus community safe and healthy during this global pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to suspend out-of-state travel for fall 2020. It is very likely that you will hear from your Willamette representative in the near future requesting information about how to schedule a virtual visit with your school, and we are eager to support your hard work as well. We are happy to participate in and help facilitate your virtual college fairs, application & essay writing workshops, financial aid nights, small-colleges panels, case studies or any other virtual programming you might be planning for your students and their families.
How is Willamette supporting the college search process during the pandemic?
Our first priority is to keep our campus community safe and healthy, including future Bearcats trying to navigate this new college search process. We have built a robust menu of virtual visit options to help prospective students and families engage with the Willamette community in meaningful ways. Daily options include virtual tours, admission information sessions, and interviews with our admission staff and current students. We are also more than happy to connect prospective students and families with our campus partners to help them discover how Willamette might be a great fit. We are offering in-person campus tours on a limited basis and plan to hold several in-person open-house events this fall with limited registration capacity.
Opportunities for Counselors
In lieu of in-person updates over coffee or lunch this fall, Willamette will host a 4-part series of Big Topic Conversations for counselors. We hope you will join us to get to know Willamette a little better and participate in a virtual roundtable discussion. A schedule and registration information will be made available in August.
