Navigating the changes We’ve seen many things in our country, and indeed our world, change in response to the current COVID-19 situation. Remote teaching and learning are taking place in homes across the country, social distancing has become the norm, and while we are once again in pain, struggling to comprehend acts of racism and violence against Black people, many of us have taken to the streets to demand real and lasting change. I can only imagine how challenging this has made your work with rising seniors students eager to more fully engage in their college search process. The Admission team has pulled together some resources that we hope will be helpful to you and your students. I sincerely hope you find them useful. Virtual Experiences - We know that for many students, your preference would be to visit our campus in person, speak to some of our students and ask questions of our staff. We’ve created a series of virtual opportunities that we hope will fill some of those needs Virtual tours - explore our campus through our interactive tour, or follow along with a tour guide on one of     previously recorded live Facebook tours Information Sessions - admission counselors and current Holy Cross students give 30-minute Zoom     presentations highlighting key aspects of the College and application process, just like at an in-person     information session Junior Advisory Days - a uniquely Holy Cross offering, these hour long sessions provide guidance on     navigating    the admissions process, as well as tips on essay writing and interviewing, useful no matter     where you apply Chats - e-chat live with current students and admissions staff; ask your questions, or just view the     responses to questions posed by other prospective students While much may be changing in the world, we wanted to remind you know a few things that haven’t changed at Holy Cross: Test Optional - Holy Cross continues to be test-optional. To us, an overall portfolio of academic experience (as demonstrated through a transcript) is more powerful than a single test or combination of tests. Meet Full Need - Holy Cross continues to meet the full, demonstrated financial need of all of our accepted students. Have no application supplement - We accept the Common Application or the Coalition Application, but have no additional supplemental application. Enroll all students undeclared - With almost limitless combinations of academic programs available to our students as part of a liberal arts education, there’s no pressure for students to know upfront what they’d like to study. We know that many of us are doing our jobs very differently from how we have always done them, and want to offer you any support we can. I’m just spreading the word about the 2020 Dreamer Scholarship if you know of any students at Wichita State now or headed here in the fall and who meet the criteria.

The Dreamer Scholarship is provided through the Wichita State University Student Government Association (SGA) and the Rho Beta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta (SLB) for DACA-affiliated or undocumented students planning to continue their education at WSU. Priority for this scholarship will be given to DACA or undocumented students. Awards are based on academic excellence, leadership in on-campus activities/organizations and financial need. The committee will award students scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500. After applications are reviewed, finalists will be contacted for an in-person interview and awarded accordingly.

Applications are due Friday, July 1, 2020 at 5pm via ShockerSync. 

All applicants must:

• Be an incoming or current WSU student
• Be a full-time student at WSU
• Have a minimum of 2.5 GPA at WSU (or 3.0 incoming high-school graduates).

We hope your academic school year is winding down nicely and your anxiety about the end of the year is transitioning nicely into anxiety about when schools will reopen in the fall. In the meantime, I wanted to give a quick update on the incoming Class of 2024 at Tulane, as well as share two poignant blogs that your students might find useful. Our first blog, "You’ve Earned This," is aimed at your rising seniors as they start to emerge from their quarantines. Bottom line—colleges want them to be happy and not worry about making up for lost time. Second is a feature on our undergraduate program in public health. Now would be a really, really good time for your students to consider a major in public health. Tulane’s undergraduate public health program is one of just a handful in the United States, and we’re really proud of the work our students do in that major. Share it with any students who are thinking, how can I help the world right now? Lastly, a few facts about our incoming Class of 2024: Acceptance rate: We have gone from an acceptance rate of 30% a few years ago to 11% this year. While I am not one to celebrate a low rate of admission, it is indicative of how competitive Tulane has become over the last decade. Yield: Measured by the number of students that accept an admission offer, increasing yield has been another focus of ours. Our yield is at 39 %, the highest it has ever been. Diversity: This is Tulane’s most diverse and global cohort ever. 33% of our incoming class will be represented by students of color and international students. This marks a 65% growth in five years. Our goal is to recruit a class that represents our country and the world; while we aren’t there yet, having one-third of this year’s class represented by this group is a significant improvement. The top states represented in this year’s class are New York (#1), California (#2), Louisiana (#3), Illinois (#4), New Jersey (#5), and Texas (#6). Waitlist: For the first time in many years, Tulane admitted a small group of students from the waitlist in anticipation of summer melt. As of now, our waitlist remains open; however, our freshman enrollment is right where we currently need it to be at this point in time. 	Greetings from Nashville! I’m sure we can all agree that spring has felt different this year from anything we’ve previously experienced. We missed the celebration of graduation and seeing the happy faces of our excited seniors, and we missed the end-of-year traditions for all of our younger students, too. Transitions are never easy, and while this may have been one of the more difficult seasons, we have great hope for the futures of our students. Our admissions work at Vanderbilt continues—we are excited to see the entering class of 2020 solidify even as we continue to make offers from our waitlist. We expect the waitlist process to continue through early July as it typically does. Of course, we are thinking about high school juniors and sophomores and working hard to give them ample opportunities to get to know Vanderbilt. We are excited to add Virtual High School Visits to our online offerings. The virtual high school visit is designed to mimic in-person high school visits to allow your students an opportunity to engage with their admissions officer. We will host 30-minute sessions, each covering one of five different topics: Vanderbilt overview, financial aid and scholarships, highly selective/holistic admissions, finding your fit, and essay writing. We will present these discussion-based sessions over Zoom so that you and your students can ask questions in real time. To learn more and to request a virtual high school visit, please submit this request form. Although Vanderbilt has made the decision to cancel on-campus events through the beginning of August, we encourage you and your students to stay in touch with us and to take advantage of our online information sessions, hosted daily. Please bookmark our virtual visit page because we will be adding more opportunities during the summer, including ways students can engage with faculty and staff throughout the university to learn more about what life as a Commodore is all about. As we reflect on the past year of working through the application process with you, and particularly on the past two months, it's clear that we would not be able to do our work without you.
