We are well into October and have a few things to share with students.

• As a reminder, students who start their application by November 1 are eligible for a $50 application fee waiver. We hope you will encourage your students to take advantage of the offer.
   
• The Tulsa Time Overnight Visit Program, November 10-11, is quickly approaching and spots are filling up fast. If you have students interested in attending this program, tell them to register at their earliest convenience. We do expect there to be a waitlist as we get closer to the event. Details can be found on the website and registration form.
   
• The Special Programs Application is open to students who have completed their TU application and submitted their test scores and transcripts. Students can apply for the following programs with this one-stop-shop application. Learn more here. The deadline to apply to one or more of these interdisciplinary programs is January 15.

Tradition and Innovation Fall semester is well underway, and our new students just got to experience their first CSU Homecoming, one of our favorite traditions. High school visits, college fairs and campus visits are other big traditions this time of year, and we're excited to be meeting so many of your students on campus and on the road. We've outlined some key events below. Of course, we want to balance tradition with new ways of reaching students, such as broader visit options and our Instagram "Ask-A-Professor" Live Stream. Through it all, your admissions counselor is a great resource!

Fall Admissions Events Our full range of visit events is outlined on our visit site.   Twilight Tours Tuesdays through October only, guests tour campus at sunset and then receive a brief admissions and financial aid overview. TWILIGHT TOURS Explore CSU This is our most comprehensive full-day fall visit event for prospective seniors and transfer students: Friday, October 25. EXPLORE CSU Info Session/Tour En Español Saturday, October 26 we host an information session and tour for freshmen, transfers and their guests fully in Spanish. INFO SESSION AND TOUR EN ESPAÑOL Daily Info Sessions Offered weekdays and select Saturdays, Information Sessions and Tours are a broad half-day intro with optional add-ons such as lunch in a dining center. Instagram Live Stream: Ask A Professor You and your students are encouraged to follow CSU Admissions on Instagram to watch our next "Ask A Professor" Live Stream on Wednesday, November 6, at 4:00 p.m. (Mountain Time). In this episode, one of our Mechanical Engineering professors will answer questions submitted in real-time by participants.

National Merit Scholars Program

Students named as semifinalists are encouraged to follow the directions set by the National Merit Corporation to apply for finalist standing. National Merit Finalists who select Texas Tech are entitled to 100% cost of attendance. Read more here. 

Red Raider Orientation

Red Raider Orientation (RRO) is required for all new students. Your admitted students may now begin registering for RRO at redraiderorientation.ttu.edu.

FAFSA Now Open

Students may now submit their 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Spring 2020 Priority Application Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Spring 2020 semester is November 1, 2019. Encourage your students to apply at www.applytexas.org.

Upcoming KU Deadlines & Reminders

FAFSA Open Oct. 1 The FAFSA is now available, and uses tax information from 2018. Encourage students to file early so they can receive a clear picture of their financial aid package earlier. The priority deadline to apply is Dec. 1. fafsa.gov Crimson & Blue Day: Oct. 18 Crimson & Blue Day provides an overview of all the amazing things KU has to offer, from outstanding academic programs to rich traditions and history. This open-house style event allows prospective students to choose which tours and sessions they would like to experience. Come and go as their schedule allows. Encourage your students to register now!   KU Scholarship Deadline: Nov. 1 Students who apply by Nov. 1 are automatically considered for thousands of dollars in scholarships. As a reminder, students can submit their December test score for scholarship consideration, so long as they apply by Nov. 1. apply.ku.edu Encourage Honors Program applicants Honors students experience highly individualized advising, engaging courses taught by outstanding faculty members and post-grad success - University Honors has a 98 percent graduate placement rate which is one of the highest in the nation. Priority application date is Nov. 1. honors.ku.edu New Net Price Calculator The new KU Net Price Calculator (NPC) is now available for prospective freshmen and transfer students to calculate their estimated costs and financial aid for the 2020-21 school year. In addition to calculating standard cost components like tuition and fees, the new NPC allows students to see how their cost varies based on their housing and meal plan choices. AVENUE FIVE - COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL

I hope you are off to a great school year! 

I wanted to reach out and share some exciting news.  On September 1, 2019 a new law took effect which reduces the training requirements for Cosmetology licensure in Texas.  Under this new law, the program length for Cosmetology has been reduced by 33% from 1,500 to 1,000 hours. This makes Texas one of the fastest and most affordable states in the United States to pursue a career as a cosmetologist.  Starting sometime in 2020, the following changes will take place that we want students to be aware of:

⦁ Graduate 2-3 months faster 

⦁ Enter workforce more quickly

⦁ Save money on the cost of attendance

These changes are just around the corner and we want to make sure students have the most up to date knowledge.  Through the rule-making process, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation will create the rules to implement the above law changes in 2020. They will be required to allow public comment regarding the implementation of the regulations, and we will share that information with you once it is available.  

We hope that these exciting changes will help many students overcome previously existing obstacles to this incredible career.
