VANDERBILT

Vanderbilt University (turn images on to view)

Greetings from Nashville, where we are finally starting to experience cooler temperatures--our admission counselors left the great heat wave of 2019 and have been traveling around the country and the globe to meet you and your wonderful students. We are sure that most of you are in the throes of an active application season, guiding your students to apply to their best-fit colleges. Of course, we hope that you have plenty of information about Vanderbilt to point students our way in their application process!
By now you’ve heard our exciting news regarding the ACT—because of the latest advice and research from ACT, we now superscore that test just as we have always done for the SAT. We will consider the highest test score for each section of the ACT, making a single superscored composite score. Likewise, for the SAT, we consider the highest section scores for the Math and Evidence-based Reading and Writing sections, making a single superscore to be considered in the application review process.
In addition, we encourage you to take a look at our latest By the Numbers video that summarizes some of the accolades of which we are most proud. Vanderbilt is known for being one of “the smartest schools” and one of the “most innovative” universities, and we have also taken the top ranking among students for having the “best quality of life.” Likewise, we’ve long been known for offering one of the best values among colleges—our Opportunity Vanderbilt financial aid program ensures that talented students from all backgrounds are admitted to and enroll at Vanderbilt, and 65% of students receive some type of financial assistance. Our dedication to ensuring socioeconomic diversity emanates from the university’s mission to build a diverse and inclusive community; to that end, we are proud that 42% of students in our entering 2019 class are students of color and come from 1,092 different high schools.
While we understand that you are faced with deadlines of all kinds, we would be remiss if we didn’t remind you of our upcoming November 1 Early Decision I application deadline. We offer Early Decision II as well, another binding decision plan; the January 1 ED II deadline is the same as our Regular Decision deadline. To learn more about our decision plans and application process, visit our Application QuickGuide. Of course, we invite you to contact your admissions counselor with any questions—we are happy to assist you!
Wishing you a terrific and seamless early application season!
Sincerely,
Douglas L. Christiansen, Ph.D.
